UK visa requirements entirely depend upon which country’s passport you are travelling on. Your US immigration status is completely irrelevant and of no interest to the UK Border Agency.
If you are in any doubt about your legal entry to the UK you should check with the nearest British Embassy or consulate BEFORE you book your travel arrangements. It would be a shame to spend all that money and travel thousands of miles to be turned back at the airport passport control/immigration desk !!
Do it the simple way, just check whether your country is listed on the source provided, if so you will need a visa. Your US Green Card does not count anything for the UK concerning a visa waiver, it will but ease the application for a tourist visa.

What BRIAN C tells is incorrect, the US Green Card authorizes travel to Mexico regardless of the citizenship.

The fact that you have an American Green card does not entitle you to enter ANY country any where except America – it certainly has no standing in the UK.
Whether you need a visa to enter England depends entirely on where you live and what nationality passport you hold – it is quite possible that as an American citizen you do NOT need a visa (but it has nothing to do with having a green card)
You must check with your nearest British Embassy to see what regulations and requirements apply to you personally.
