Tips for travel in Costa Rica?

My boyfriend and I are plotting a trip to Costa Rica sometime at the end of January. We would like some advice on places to stay, things to see and do. We are going to go for 10 days and will be staying at some point at The Sanctuary resort and Spa in Playa Azul (Pacific Coast). We would also like to stay at the Tree House Hotel in Muelle San Carlos. So, we need some places to visit along the way and maybe a place to stay for a night or two.

you need to stay away from all the animals because they WILL attack you. my girlfriends and i went to costa rica and stayed in a treetop hotel and the animals were VICIOUS. also there are many drug addicts and rapists/perverts in the urban areas. delight in your trip!
Bring a gallon of bug spray, don’t drink the water ( drink bottled ), don’t eat any salads , don’t eat any fruit with a skin unless you wash it first, don’t even take the ice cubes in ordered drinks.
I went there 2 years ago and got deathly sick. I have been traveling for many years and Costa Rica was the worst place I ever went to. Stay away from San Juan. There is human poop on the sidewalks and NEVER go out at night. Take insurance out beforehand so you can be air lifted out .
Honestly……pick another place to go.
lol, dont get too worried about jake’s comment. dont provoke animals, but they wont just attack you for no reason.
If you go to the pacific coast, go to a place called Montezuma. Its ffreaking gorgeous. If you like surfing, theres a place about an hour away called mal pais. Not as fancy as montezuma, but definetly Surf/party town. both those places are on the nicoya peninsula. I would also reccomend spending time in San Carlos de la Fortuna so you can see a volcano, and also Santa Elena cause it’s way up in the cloud forest.
If you go to the carribean coast, there’s a place called rockin’ J’s in puerto viejo. its a hostel and you can rent treehouses and its awesome. look! http://www.rockingjs.com/
excellent luck and let me know if you have any questions. I loved costa rica and writing this just made me feel all nostalgic lol.
Hi,
You guys have 2 fantastic spots picked out for sure. The treehouse gets booked up quick, so I would recommend making reservations soon.
I would also head to Arenal and Monteverde areas as well.
This way you’ll get to see the majority of Costa Rica.
Let me know if I can help,

A fantastic trip for couples who like hiking, birdwatching, and adventure is the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve (www.monteverdeinfo.com). Zip-line over the forest, visit a Bat Jungle, spot ocelots, and watch hummingbirds as they miraculously flap their brilliant-colored wings. The official site has detailed directions/maps, as well as hotels in the area. It’s simple to get to Muelle San Carlos from the cloud forest, so it’s a fantastic option to pair with Tree House Hotel.

I recommend you go and question to the a Tour Operator and they can help you before your arrival, they usually arrange everything to make your trip well.
Excellent luck.
There’sn a lot of things to see and do in Costa Rica. Some highlights:
Monteverde cloud forest preserve- gorgeous cool misty lush cloud forest
Arenal volcano- well, its a frequently erupting volcano you can watch.
Manuel Antonio and Carara national parks- gorgeous jungle beaches and huge lowland forest with fantastic wildlife, respectively.
Corcovado national park- a small remote, but has the best wildlife and jungle in costa rica.
Don’t be worried by some of the other comments. There may be a few places where the animals are fed by humans where they are aggressive, but I lived in the country for a year and saw thousands of animals and never saw any aggressive behavior, except I would advise you not to stand directly under howler monkeys because they tend to urinate when they sense intruders.
Most water in the country is drinkable, but I would advise caution in some of the small towns. In general the country is honestly clean and safe by third world standards, but there are terrible neighborhoods and towns like anywhere.
I have been to Costa Rica once and I loved it excellent choice! The only encounter we had with a terrible animal was when a coatimundi grabbed our bag of snacks and snagged my Aunt’s leg. There is a really cool restaurant called Casa Blanca and you can feed raccoons there. (really harmless). I would bring close toed shoes if you want to go on the lava rocks and snorkeling. Watch out for stone fish I nearly stepped on one!! It’s gorgeous and I like the monkeys. We are going back December for Christmas (my Aunt has a house there). Email me at swimmer_savannah28@yahoo.com if you have any other questions. Have a excellent time!
