I am looking to buy a GPS navigator and was wondering if there is a monthly fee or if you just buy it and use it. Also I am looking for a low cost unit, what are some excellent recommendations and why. thanks.

Monthly fee. You need to send me $25 a month to use it.

yes you buy then, you use. no other fees. a excellent brand depends on what you want. just type in to your computer gps and press enter. and you can see all kinds and choose what you like. i like garmin. or you can look them up at walmart

GPS navigational units do not have a monthly fee for use. You buy it, plug it in and it works. After several years you may want to pay to have the maps updated, because new roads are built but this is not required.

I recommend Garmin, but there are other excellent brands out there.

i bought a magellan roadmate from costco for about 135.10
found it worthless to make a long tale small. especially the battery life, anyone who owns one knows you cannot use it without the adapter charging plugged in. the battery literary lasts 30 minutes without being plugged in.
got a garmin and seriously the interface annoyed the heck out of me. plus it kept taking me on roads i did not want to go.
finally i got a newelectronx navigator….. its been a few weeks and nothing to complain about…
does not matter which one you buy. all stand alone gps models are the same in the fact that you dont have to pay for monthly service. unless you use it on your mobile phone.
