just an fyi msn is discontinuing their direct service at the end of 2011 start of 2012. Here is more in depth – The gps functions fine just like any other Garmin released recently. The traffic where I am out is more of a novelty. I do not reckon it has ever helped me avoid a traffic issue. Usually it is better to ignore the alternate routes. Every time I estimate how long the delay was vs. the alternate route with no traffic it always was better to ignore the alternate. As for the MSN service it is a very cool feature that is going away as noted earlier. So in small buy this if you want basic gps functionality, but be wary of traffic and be aware of the MSN services demise.

Just a honest warning: The MSN Direct website states that they will shut the entire service down in 2012. So if you buy this with a view to having access to weather, traffic, movies, plane status, etc., then this will only work for two years, after that, it will turn back into a very handy and useful GPS pumpkin, the glass slippers and the pretty dress will be gone.

We had an older non-bluetooth Garmin and loved it over all the other GPS systems that we tried. This one, but, is not at all worth the money. We returned one because the voice navigation would mess up and sounds garbbled. The bluetooth had a lot of background noise when compared to the Tom Tom and then the thing would shut down randomly in the middle of navigation. Got another one and had some of the same issues so returning for a refund and sticking with the Tom Tom which is a bit more expensive, but it WORKS whereas this one simply does not.

Back in 2001 I bought my first Garmin via Amazon for over 500 dollars…
Later another Garmin via Amazon for just under 300 dollars in 2008…
Earlier this year one via Amazon for my son for 200 dollars…
As time progresses Garmin offers more and more features for less money.
While the graphics on our 2008 and my son’s 2009 model are superior, this new Garmin has all you might need and then some at a very affordable price!
We tested it on our usual routes and compared…it is a excellent deal!

In my wildest dreams I never thought I’d ever want or need a GPS unit to tell me where I am or where I want or need to go. I’ve never used the map feature in my iPhone. Sure I print out maps from Yahoo sometimes, but I have an AAA atlas that I use when I’m on the road. Who could question for anything more. Sometimes technology is just a bit too much and goes overboard.
Or so I thought. This small baby has changed my mind. First of the hands free phone talking in the car works a treat and I use it a lot. That alone, for me, is worth the price. Setting up the GPS couldn’t have been simpler. It found the satellites quickly and it found where I was too.
Using this small unit is very intuitive, the talking voice is not monotonous which I thought it would be and navigating is a breeze. It’s just incredible what I was missing with my ancient car and atlas. Now I feel like I’ve really went into the 21st Century.
