I bought this umbrella because I had to reduce the load in my briefcase. Living in San Francisco, you need an umbrella because of the changeable weather. This model is light, light, light and compact and does the job if you use it as an “emergency” umbrella or as a parasol/sunshade. It packs flat, and takes up very small space.

Note that I use this as an “emergency” umbrella. It’s handy if you need something to shelter you as you run between buildings, etc. It’s not an every-day heavy use product. My other Samsonite with the heavy-duty stainless steel struts and gussetted cover is used for the winter rains.

I would have given it five stars if it had been an automatic open/close model, but it’s a small detail since I bought this for its weight and convenience, not speed.
