They shouldn’t say this is for Europe, because it works nowhere in England or Ireland that I was visiting. It was basically a $10 chunk of plastic to lug around. For England and Ireland, you need the plugs with three flat prongs. I finished up spending 10 pounds on new plugs once I got there.

Just back from a 9-day trip to Ireland. Wanted to be able to charge our laptop computer, and our cell phones. The Samsonite converter worked perfectly — plug it into a wall outlet, and your item into the converter. Couldn’t be simpler, and it never failed us. Seems to be a solid, well-built small device. Best $9.95 I’ve spent in a while.

I bought it for my mom to use with her laptop in Belarus. She has been pleased with it since the moment she plugged it in. Since electrical system in Russia and Belarus are identical, it will work in Russia as well – get it if you plot on traveling over there.

This adapter did not work with the plugs I confronted in France recently. Last I checked, France is part of Europe. “Ancient europe” perhaps, but Europe still.
The grounding pole in the outlet hits into the plastic on the adapter so the adapter cannot be inserted into the outlet. Perhaps in other countries the grounding pole is further from the middle of the outlet so that this would work properly. But not in France.
Otherwise it’s a solid adapter. The UK version I bought worked quite nicely and this has similar construction quality.
(BTW, to Amazon’s credit, they accepted the return for a full refund).

I work in Ethiopia and brought two of these Samsonite plug adapters with me from the U.S. These Samsonite plug adapters are of very high quality and extremely rugged and reliable. The plug adapters available here in Ethiopia are of very cheap quality (cheap plastic and poor internal electrical connections) and practically useless (hard to maintain a excellent connection). I’ve had absolutely no problems with the Samsonite plug adapters and was so impressed that I am buying more to take back with me to Ethiopia. They may cost more than the cheap plug adapters here but are very much worth the price.
