I’m plotting a 8-10 day trip to Costa Rica in late November. My plot is to glide into Quepos spend half the time there and then drive a rental 4×4 to Monteverde. After spending the latter half of the trip there I would glide back home from the nearest airport or drive to the airport in Liberia. I have a few questions about my plot.

1. Is driving between Quepos and Monteverde a smart go? I have some experience with perilous roads, 4×4s and want to see the country side, but I also want a laid back trip.

2. What is the best route from Quepos to Monteverde? Should I stick to the coast, head back through San Jose, or go another way?

3. Should I flip the trip around and start in Monteverde? I’ve noticed some websites say it is quicker to drive south then it is to drive north. Is this a mistake or is there really a reason to head south instead of north?

4. I’m looking for fantastic beaches, incredible jungles, excellent food, semi-luxurious hotels, Something not too remote, and to get away from the party/surf atmosphere of some places. Did I pick the right spots?

5.If I end the trip in Monteverde what is the best way to connect to a flight back to the US?

This website was one of the first to appear on google. Apparently it is offering vacation packages, very reasonable, that offer dinner every night and a 4×4 car rental to get from place to place. Currently, my three friends and I are plotting a senior trip to Costa Rica this summer, when we all turn 18. On a scale of 1-10, how much Spanish do I need to know?
Are hostels a excellent place to stay and are they safe?
Do any of the casinos have fixed limit Texas Holdem poker?
Would two weeks be an adequate duration for my visit to explore the whole country (or to get a reasonable feel for all the different areas)?
As an American, if I hang out in clubs/casinos/etc. at night, can I have a excellent time without getting hassled/propositioned by prostitutes (I hear it’s legal there).
Can I still have a reasonably excellent time and be safe as a solo traveller?
Are there liquor stores in Costa Rica and if so, are North American brand name liquors sold at comparable prices to the U.S., or are they more expensive?
Is it terribly hot and humid in Costa Rica around late April/early May, is this “the rainy season?”
What ethnic cuisine is most similar to Costa Rican food?
Where are the best places other than San Jose to visit?

Oh yeah – one more. If I’m learning Spanish from a source that teaches it they way they speak it in SPAIN (rather than Mexico or Latin America), to what extent may this cause confusing (example : I reckon pen is “pluma” in most of Latin America & Mexico but my source is calling it a “boligrafo”). Thanks again for answering any of my questions which you know or adding other info you reckon may be helpful.
